Nokia Nuffnang Silent Halloween Party Rocks!

As I have mentioned, the Nuffnang Nokia Silent Halloween Party was probably one of the most awesome events that I’ve been to in a long long time.

Probably the only event that I’ve been to in a long time actually. What with me being in Kedah most of the time and my can’t-be-arsed-ness to go for any events which I can’t relate to even when I’m back in Subang.

But Nuffnang is like a baby whose birth I witnessed and as one of the bloggers who stuck with them from the very beginning, I HAD TO GO.

I was supposed to go for the previous two parties but due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn’t go.

So I was really pumped up for the Halloween one. As we all know, costume parties are perfect reasons for us to flaunt the slut in each and everyone of us.

My first idea was to go as the corpse of Marilyn Monroe, but a quick search on Google Blog Search showed some nuffnangers having the same idea. Funnily enough, no one blogged about wanting to go as Heath Ledger’s Joker.

The Joker is a really predictable Halloween Costume Choice this year, what with the big hoo hah about the Dark Knight.

But I needed to slutterize it. There was a scene where he was pretending to be a nurse (was it with Harvey Dent? I can’t remember).

Years ago, I saw a seller on ebay selling Sexy Nurse Outfits, only for less than RM50. The guy was based in Kedah too! What are the chances!

So that was my costume, a Slutty Joker Nurse.

And because of my lousy luck when it comes to online shopping, most of the things i buy online don’t fit me perfectly. I casted my net really wide this time and bought three pieces. Yeap. One had to fit right?

As you would have it, I couldn’t fit into two of the sluttier ones. Please lor, it’s not slutty if it has sleeves! 🙁

This was the perfect outfit. PVC and all cleavage, cleavage, cleavage. Sigh.

This was also very cleavagey but if it wasn’t for the cross, there’s no other reason why it is a nurse uniform.

Next, I chose a tutorial on how to do the Joker Make up from the hundreds of Joker make up tutorials on youtube. The girl used some very basic make up tools.

For the base, I used lipbalm and white face powder. You know those cheap ass compact powders you find at Chameleon or Sinma. I bet it was their worst selling product anyway. The powder was about RM7!
Then I bought a dark brown (for the shadows and wrinkles) and black(for the eyes) eyeshadow for Rm5 each from Elianto. Most intense eyeshadow colours for the greatest value! For the Panda Bear eyes, the girl mentioned that I would need a more intense black, something like a mascara’s consistency. RM8 for that!  Two shades of red lipstick and black eyeliner to create the big smile. I was set!

I initially had a tough time looking for White cream make up, as most costume shops would stock it. But due to lack of time, I couldn’t get my hands on any. I was so desperate that I even tried mixing flour and water to see what happens. I looked furry from far.

So I started off by applying lip balm on my entire face. (my poor Neutrogena Lip Balm). Vaseline would have provided better coverage. But the lack of a tub of Vaseline at home was probably good news, in a way.

If i didn’t use the lip balm, the white powder would have slid off my face half way through the party. It also helped create a creamier consistency.

Then came the fun part! The eyes!! First, I applied black eyeshadow around the eyes. If I stopped there, I would only get a smoky eye effect. To go all out dirty, in comes the mascara. I squeezed as much mascara as I possibly could off the brush and applied it closer to the lash line. Spread it around and there you have, intense blackness.

I then took an eyeshadow brush and pulled the black away from the eyes for faux wrinkles. Used my nail to scratch the forehead and randomly scratched my face to get some of the wrinkles on. Brown eyeshadow next to the alar of my nose. (at the sides of both nostrils). Brown eyeshadow to create a furrow around my eyebrows.

Then I finished the look with plenty of glitter all over the make up. A touch of Jolene. 🙂

If I let my hairdown, I would’ve looked like one of those scary rockers who paint their face for performances. Whatever, I don’t know my heavy metal.

Joker’s surprise birthday party.

I had to check to see if I would have any wardrobe malfunction that nigh

t with the cameras flashing here and there. Thank god Satin reflects! (Some Nude Bra material can be quite thin, and thus embarrassing.)

As per our newly founded tradition, Soon Seng and I pakated to go for this party together. For years, I’ve never liked bringing friends from real life to blog meets/parties because they would die of boredom from all the pointless camwhoring. Soon Seng has successfully submerged himself into the blogosphere and thus was the perfect friend to go with!

Not to say that I don’t think of blogging friends as real friends, but I’m more comfortable attending these events with someone I see more often in real life. And I don’t see any of my blogging friends on any other occasion except blog meets. (Yee Hou, you’re my real life friend too. *hugs*)

The party was like an Interact/Leo Club event to me, anyone and everyone was a friend to you. I just went around saying hello and making new acquaintances. I don’t know a whole lot of these people, fresh new faces in the blogosphere who have formed solid cliques and it’s almost like I was new to the scene, once more.Time to blame Kedah again. But it’s not the same, the blogosphere now and the blogosphere then.

Familiar faces have left the country to further their studies, some abandoned the blogging scene after passing that phase…

..but I’m always keen to meet new people. It’s my thing. 🙂

I used to be really shy and awkward at blog meets despite co-organizing a few blog meets. I’m actually quite loud and disgusting one. I was totally myself that night. Must’ve been the Joker make up, eh? Conversations flowed and a few of them spoke to me like old friends despite meeting me for the first time.

Nicholas came up to me and asked, “Guess who I am!”

I didn’t get it until he started sucking on his pinky. -_-;

This was a good idea, it gave off red carpet vibes. As the bloggers arrived, they had their photos taken with this board-thing.

I can’t get over how absolutely adorable these Nuffies* from Singapore were. They came as the Powerpuff girls! The one in Blue is Huiwen, who is Bubbles right? (That’s all I know about Powerpuff girls). The one in Green is Cherie and the one in red is Raine. 🙂 I love love love Raine’s redbow. In this get up, they look at least 5 years younger than their real age. I’m guessing their about 20-21 years old. right?

*Nuffies is a term that the good people at Nuffnang call themselves.

I realised there were about 6 people from my high school there! And all in different years too!

There was Chee Wei who went as Scream ( I think ) who is from the 1984 year.

Wai Ping (or Pinky, as many of you know her!) from the 1988 batch.
and Sherrymint from the 1989 batch. She told me she was my brother’s classmate for two years and that she was my neighbour for the past 19 years. She lives like 6 houses away. And I don’t remember her!! I’m so sorry Pei Min! I promise to say hello when I see you next time! I was one of those little girls who didn’t come out at 5pm to play with the neighbourhood girls. ;\

KY is damn funny! He went as rain and if anybody didn’t know who he was trying to be, he would squirt them.(sounds wrong). I suppose everything cost him less than RM5.

The last time I saw Serge (so long until I even forgot his real name, but I remember your nickname, Serge!) was like back in 2006. He couldn’t recognize me through my make up… this is him trying to guess who I was.

Audrey and Tim (who went as Kurt Cobain. I thought he was some drunk celebrity, with the smeared lip stick and all) having a serious conversation.

The big screen had cheesy halloween messages throughout the night.

I saw a really pretty girl strutting around all glammed up. When I peered closer, I was like, “OH!! YAY! Friend!”

According to Hsu Jen, she’s something like a reincarnation of Keira Knightley.

That’s Simon and Soon Seng with his fangs! Soon Seng went as Chow Yun Fatt the vampire. Reason being that he is chinese and he can slick his hair back. I bet no one guessed it huh? Other more common guesses were more holy-like.

In photos, I now realize that Simon’s make up is actually more than stitches running down his face. You did something to one half of your face, didn’t you Simon? The left side looks very plasticky!

Johnny Ong who wore garlic to ward off all the ghouls that night (so did your neighbours enjoy a good Bak Kut Teh session ah Johnny?:D ), Dominic who came as the Hunchback (I don’t think he meant is as the Notre Dam one, but oh well) and our Soon Seng as a minister/vicar/priest.

It’s been three years since I last saw Kenny. It was a time when I was still in college and blogging had only started getting some recognition locally and see how far he’s gone in three short years!

Then when I pointed to my name tag and it was funny to see recognition dawn upon his blackened face.

I was standing by the bar when I spotted a Joker and a Bjork. We exchanged hellos and then I somehow got the drift that the Joker was a Dentist Joker. So I leaned over and said, “Ooo! Coincidentally, I’m studying dentistry.”

And the Dentist Joker was like, “What! I’m studying dentistry too!”

And we both got so excited. Turns out that he’s also a fourth year dental student. Only one more year to graduation before seeing each other at dental conferences year after year and telling our colleagues that ‘Oh So funny double Joker’ story over and over again.

What are the chances right?? Same make-up(okay, he obviously used buncho paint! Right Bernard?) and same future career!! But people study at UKM..so keng. 🙂

Dentist Joker and Nurse Joker (Healthcare Jokers) camwhored with Carmen who went as Velma from Scoobydoo and Vvens who went as Michael Jackson’s daughter. Those two girls are just so adorable!!! I’ll put them all on my bed, alongside the Singapore nuffies and my Hannari tofus. They can all be my soft toys. I know I’m sounding a little freaky.

Lie Peh (or Iris, as you all might know her. SORRY AH, I got this thing about calling people with their chinese names if I start off with a chinese name. Which is why my poor boyfriend has not successfully used his English name yet. Poor thing. No, you go ask him what is his english name.) and Meeee!

Lie Yuen spent three days doing this Yukata for Lie Peh. AND I HAD TO TAKE A CAMWHORE PICTURE AND NOT A FULL LENGTH ONE. I so anak derhaka to my housemate right. She burns the midnight oil to SEW (hahahahah..) something for her sister and there I go, forgetting to take a full body picture. But hop over to her blog, should be able to see her white Yukata in all its glory.

Oh, -_- and when I saw Lie Peh, our hands slowly met as we were talking animatedly…and I started shaking it like how people shake hands for the first time when they meet. She was like, “Why are you shaking my hand?” and I’m like, “I don’t know.”

We adjourned to Pavillion for some coffee. This is the Joker Nurse reminding you where you parked your car.

It was fun walking into Pavillion in my costume, getting stares from the people around us. Kelz, Jen and the rest at least had each other. Bloody hell, I was walking alone with Soon Seng (whose Chow Yun Fat Vampire-ness disapearred after awhile)…and I still muka tebal (HAHA) go and ask the security guards for directions to Starbucks.

After yamchaing at Starbucks Pavillion, the two of us walked from one end of the eatery boulevard-ish place to the other, getting stares from the yamcha crowd.

I waved and smiled at random strangers while Yatz emoed next to me with his long hair. I seriously felt like some Ah Kua layaning random men at one point of my waving and smile-flashing.

A few people even came up to take pictures with us.

A middle eastern couple saw us crossing the road and motioned to take a photo. We declined, thinking that they wanted to help us take a photo. However, the guy himself wanted to take a photo of us ghouls!

So we were on their video camera for abit and I said “Hello! Welcome to Malaysia. Everyone in Malaysia looks like that!”

Back home, Mervyn roused from his slumber and couldn’t wait to pry open the Nokia Box. He has this thing about unboxing gadgets. Watches Youtube videos of gadgets being unboxed. My brother has strange interests.

The Nokia 5220 Xpressmusic truly lives up to its name. I wanted to send an sms, I accidentally turned the music on. I want to take a picture, I accidentally turned the music on. I want to go to the menu, I accidentally turned the music on. I put the phone down on the table, the music  turns on by itself.

Naw, just kidding. But the buttons must be too small for my fingers or else I would be able to go to what I want and not turn the music on all the time.

But this phone will be awesome for my mum as she is a music teacher. Music teachers get music phones!

5 Universal Music CD’s came along with my prize. I’m thinking of giving my Rock music loving classmates one of those rock cds. Not my kind of thing!

Thought I should end the post with photos of my FIRST ever Halloween party from way back in 2004. It was one crazy night where Sush, Chien, Barry and I went around trick or treating. Everyone was still in Subang at that time and therefore we got layaned quite a bit.

All of us looked so young. ;| I was only 17 then. Sigh.

Abit too much red eh! But I was really happy with it at that time.
