April’s Jewelry Range at Vanity Vault, Clearing Out My Grandparents’ Home and The Aftermath of That Shopaholics Unite Party

Posted on May 9, 2007October 31, 2009 by Jolene

I was back in Subang(again!!) over the weekend to meet up with April and Leng and Felicia, the two babes who run Shopaholics Unite, to get some material for a couple of articles for R.age. Hopefully the articles will be approved!

Like before, I will also show you some of April’s latest creations. Her polymer clay skills have gotten much better(as if that’s even possible) and she’s now branching out to newer things like proper jewelry. Go see her new website to look at all her designs!

We decided to meet up at Starbucks in SS15 early in the morning to do the interview and do the consequent pimping.

Here’s April showing me her versatile necklace. The following jewelry that you are about to see is all part of her Vanity Vault range.

Would you look at that? That bracelet is really something else. With faux glass charms and gold this and gold that… so pretty!!

Something green for you to layer your neck with.

She actually bent the gold wire herself around that transparent stone thing. So creative right?

Here’s one of charming bracelets!

Look at that! Hoop earrings with a twist!

Trying out some of her accessories

She even makes book thongs! For those who don’t know, book thongs are like bookmarks, only thing that they are prettier:) I think she was selling this one for RM12.90.

Fresh water pearls and some jade pieces…who would’ve thought it would make such a darling combination?

here’s another bookthong!

Trying on one more!

She even makes bag danglies. She calls this the hamster killer.

And this… well, was very interesting! Something transparent, something glass like…and that chiffon-ish ribbon. So beautiful!

See.. I’ve always been meaning to buy myself a necklace which uses a ribbon as its chain. But I’ve never found the perfect one.

Something different for those wrists of yours’.

Moonstone earrings…with jade-like ornaments as well.

And a simple silver heart with pink diamentes.

This girl has EVERYTHING. Rings included.

Part of her very very vast collection…

And how could I possibly leave her polymer clay earrings collection out? She’s the only one who has the patience and the skills to make these babies! She calls this range her Vanity Vault Petite range as she thinks that it caters to a younger group of people. Na-ah, I’m still loving it.

Look at that! It’s like a wedding cake! With real texture and all….

Are you hungry yet?

Here’s another view of her beautiful almost-edible-like earrings.

Fancy a kiwi cake? (I know you do, Mel!):P Should have bought those for you.

I suggested to her to buy those Barbie Doll cake tiers thingie. It would be of good use for her earrings.

Her pastries are DAMN BLOODY REAL OK? I cannot for the life of me possibly imagine HOW she managed to get the sugar icing on the donuts and stuff. Check out her cookie. Soo so..so so so real. April is a real genius, okay! A real genius!! *makes plans to buy more*

A sunny side up, a piece of cheese and a sushi!

Swirly candies! You can almost imagine yourself sucking on them.

Look at that!~ A lemon cake! Check our how real her lemon looks. And it’s all done by her okay.

She even made little animals. I bought quite a few from this collection. I bought the ginger bread man, the baby seals and the rubber duckies! And it’s so silly of me for forgetting to take a photo…. April made me a pair of molars as a thank you gift for pimping her things! It’s damn cute okay! I’m wearing it to class tomorrow;D

Bear bear!

She even made miniature perfume bottles.

Panda bear and ginger bread man.

A pair of love birds and bunny nurses.

Japanese emoticon coffee mugs and pink bears.

I have no idea… a smiley pretzel holding his heart for you? And definitely a pair of donkeys. I’m thinking Eeyore.

Some bumble bees and kitties in cups!

Blue bear and rice balls!

White rabbits(you know, those that you get to ear during chinese new year) and the rubber duckies that I bought!

Keroppis and two foxes!

Ducks? Birds? Who knows. And baby seals:D Damn cute right the baby seals. I’ve always wanted a big furry baby seal soft toy…………… I can only go to the shopping malls to caress them. Because …*cough*.. nobody ever buys baby seals for me.

Her polymer clay stuff starts from RM8.00. But do go to her website to confirm.

After meeting up with April, I went to Success by myself to eat my favourite bowl of chicken Porridge. It’s so sad, it tastes so different now as compared to the days when I would go there for lunch in between classes. Sobbb.. So much has changed since I left A-levels..

I eat alone now as most of my friends have left home and flown the nest. Sigh.

Success is right opposite the raised platform at Asia Cafe, by the way.

Feeling rather bored, I decided to drop by my grandparents’ house where my parents, Godma Susie and Godpa Alex were still cleaning up the rest of the things to send to Buy Sell Trade. I found a couple of antique glass boxes that would be perfect for my accessories…or any other knick knacks that I own!

My grandfather was an avid collector of matchboxes. SO MANY!! We had no idea what to do with them as we were unsure if people wanted to buy any if we posted them up on eBay. Thus, I came up with this brilliant idea of glueing the boxes on a piece of cardboard, and then framing it up. It’ll make a really nice wall decoration!

Some random glasses that will be brought to Buy Sell Trade soon.

We found my great grandmother’s patchwork which she made into quilts. We were thinking, what in the world to use them for? We’ve got more than enough blankets at home… and then my mind clicked brilliantly again and I was like, “Miniskirts!” I’m going to ask my Aunty Ping to see if she can work her magic and make some miniskirts(with garters please, thank you) for me. I might even give a few to some interested friends.:D If you don’t mind clothes that are as old as me, we are game!

A beer keg, two speakers, a vacuum cleaner, many many glasswares, ceramic plates and many more were loaded into my family car and I played the role of the driver and transported the things to SS15 to trade in for a quick buck.
That’s my mum and my Godma Susie.

That’s my godpa Alex!

And my dad. So bad right me, sit in the car only. But it was my job to take care of the car while they unloaded the things.

My mum and her perpetual fear of the sun.

A cookie jar…. I was looking at wistfully, knowing that I can use it for something. But something that I will probably not do immediately, and might not even do. Sigh. Nevermind, Ikea stocks them. Nicer ones somemore!

AND THEY WANTED TO SELL MY OLD CINDERELLA JIGSAW PUZZLE!!!!:*( I’ve always wondered where it went to. Dad bought it for me when I was like nine years old. Grandma said that she would frame it up one day. I bet she forgot all about it and just left it at the back of the cupboard. Buy Sell Trade wouldn’t buy it from us so we decided to just give it to them. Then the guy said, “Okla! We hang on our wall with our other posters!”. So if any of you drop by Buy Sell Trade, remember to look at the walls(on your left!) and you’ll see my puzzle hanging proudly on the wall.

On Sunday, Mun Teng and I drove down to Hartamas for the Shopaholics Unite party. I feel kinda paiseh because the party was my idea and I promised Leng(yes, that hot girl in the photo!) that I’d bring more friends.. but in the end, everyone’s either:

A) Low on cash
B) At church
C) Asleep
D) Out of the country

Sigh. But luckily a few readers, okay, only one that I know of attended the Shoapholics Unite party. It’s not exactly a party per se… more like a scene during a big sale! The girls came in batches and looked through the things and leaving as soon as they were satisfied.

Believe me, nobody spent LESS than a hundred bucks that day.

My old kindergarten classmate, Eva Thong was there too!!! And somemore she’s from the petaling jaya kindergarten that I left when I was like four years old before going to Ladybird in USJ which was nearer to my house. We used to play paperdolls together and everything!

The clothes were beautiful..:) This big girl(no, I’m not fishing for compliments…I’m just one big and empty fish tank) has gone there and came back to tell you this good news: THERE ARE THINGS THAT FIT!! WOOT!! I can be part of this beautiful fashion thing after all!!

l-r: April and Elaine were there too!

The clothes were laid out in a room and you’ll go in there, select a few and head for any available changing room. I think I nearly got into a catfight with a rather feisty young woman at the Shopaholics Unite Party.

I feel kinda bad for writing this in my blog thus allowing Leng and Felicia to see that I’m not as polite and well-meaning as I appeared to be while conducting the interview, but am actually quite the bitch.

See, I tried on this corset and it was the last piece that I tried on before leaving the place(and buying the corset too!*heart, heart!*). So I only wanted to change out of it and into my original top. I went into the toilet(which has two stalls, but an outside basin) and clothes were strewn EVERYWHERE. Clearly, someone was using the toilet but left for awhile to do something else. So I just quickly closed the door behind me to quickly change out of the corset. But the moment I closed the door, someone was knocking vigorously on the door. In a huffy tone, the knocker said, “HEllo?!! My things are still inside!!” and I’m like, “yes, yes I know! For awhile, for awhile!” and then the prissy voice said, “I was THERE first!!” and I’m like half naked and I said, “YES I KNOW. I’m just changing ONE top okay? Sheesh!” and then she said, “Faster!!!” and then when I was done, I opened the door and said, “Sorry ya..” and she just looked at me and didn’t even say “It’s okay” or “Nevermind..” .. like just look at me and walk past that type.

I don’t remember how she looks like but I know I went to Mun Teng and breathed, “BIIIIIIIIITTTCH!!” .. and Mun Teng laughed and said, “The moment I heard that girl speaking to you like that, I KNEW you were going to come out and say that exact word to me.”

I suppose this is a very typical scenario of a sale in a hot shop. Sometimes, for beautiful things we have to bear with less than perfect beings. I really just wanted to change out of the top. I didn’t bring a gazillion clothes in to try.

and I don’t care if she knows it’s me and reads this. Hmph.

Nevermind, we’ll move on to happier things. Here’s a photo of me posing with my (then) future purchases. The damage was three tops. Bwahahha, Mun Teng’s damage was worse than mine.

Lovelovelovelove… can’t wait for the next Shopaholics Unite party. I was a little shy on Sunday, especially since I went there with the intention of getting material for R.age, but I came back with three new tops. *sighs blissfully* If I could, I would’ve looked at all the pieces a little more.

Mun Teng and I finding the perfect sunlight for our camwhoring benefits.

Mun Teng trying on a tunic dress with a lacy belt.

And this is PekMing/Ying(sorry!!:() who told me that she reads my blog!(refer to earlier mention).

After leaving Plaza Damas, we crossed the road to Desa Sri Hartamas for some long intended boutique hopping. Even in the car, in the reflection of my rear view mirror, I could make out “Up to 70%”!!

Here I am, paying homage to the very first Cats Whiskers boutique in Hartamas. They have a larger selection. I ended up buying this tube dess which was RM50. It’s damn damn damn damn nice. I didn’t get the white crocodile belt to go with it because the price is so not worth it for a belt. RM50? NO WAY! I will go and source my own nice thick white crocodile belt when I have the time. I didn’t bring the dress up to Kedah. So I kind of miss it alot now………:(

When I was at Cats Whiskers, I had another bitch experience.

I was carelessly grabbing the white belt from the racks when my elbow accidentally swung onto a little girl’s head. So I was rather alarmed and I said, “Sorry, girl!! Are you okay? Sorry!!” while patting her head. Then her mum sounded even more alarmed and said, “GIRL!!! YOU OKAY OR NOT?!! YOU OKAY???” and I turned to the mother and said, “Sorry!! sorry!!” but she just glared at me and didn’t say anything. Wtfffffffffff.

Cat fight in Cats Whiskers. Sheesh.

Anyway, pretty new tops can erase all the unhappiness in the world:

Corset top, RM37! from Shopaholics Unite!

A top that you must wear a tube with! But very nice!

And a casual lacy racer back to go with a pair of jeans.

Alright, I’m going to curl in bed and finish reading Shopaholic and Baby. If the style of today’s post sounds very Sophie Kinsella-like, that’s because I’m hooked to her latest book! Becky Bloomwood is probably at the peak of her ditziness.

You’re still quite polite in your catfights. Pretty much one sided (not yours) without much damage. I wouldn’t consider you bitchy 😉

jo: hahhaa i’m better at bakcstabbing…:) it’s an easier route.

I thought your response towards the wtf-u-doing-my-ting-still-in-there-girl was pretty mediocre and reasonable. But now get a picture on how potentially hazadrous the dressing rooms can be as conflict zones.

*imagines ah lians shopping* but they prob won’t go shopaholics utd eh? hoho…

I’ve got personal experience in MNG closing-down sale and the place looked as if it was asylum seeker food distribution camp in the poorest part of Africa. Amazing experience. I should have opted to slack at home.

jo: hahahaha.. warzone, it really is a warzone. one day I shall brave myself for one of those major warehouse sales and come home with stories to share.:D
