————————————————————————————–————-

This post is about one month late but I’ll still put it up anyway.

A month back, our oral biology lecturer, Prof. Luke was heading back to the UK after staying with my uni for nearly a year.

He was a really nice man – I bet you can see it from the chemistry he had with the rest of the classmates.

A group shot with Prof. Luke.

Brenda and I taught Prof. Luke the camwhore V-sign.. he refused at first because he didn’t want to be tricked into anything disgraceful or degrading. Hehe.

Prof. Luke was kind enough to treat the entire class to a lovely meal(CHINESE WEDDING DINNER STYLE!) at Kafe Siam. A decent restaurant in no man’s land..

I didn’t tilt my body here hence the distorted outcome of the photo.

One with our dean, Prof. Smales!

We made Prof. Luke an album which contained thank you messages from each and everyone of us. 🙂
L-r: Wuan Phing, Jamie, Jeya and Praveena

There were about six tables and each table had a lecturer in it. Promoting interaction between teacher and students it seemed.

Another random group shot with Prof. Luke, Prof. Smales and some of the new lecturers.

Nien and I making use of a mirror.

Another table..

Yet another table..

The very well behaved table because they were sitting with our dean. Hehehe.:)

Group photo with Prof. Luke.

My table. The two Lais were there, Maxis and Jolene who were eating alot throughout the night. We kept egging each other to finish the food in an “I dare you” way. hahaha. Our neverending appetite was termed “Lai syndrome”.

Lai syndrome also consists of 1) Being Fai(full of crap), 2) Sleeping in class 3) Dewan Bandaraya -eating leftovers that nobody wants.

bottom l-r: Chee Wen, Andy, our new lecturer..crap I forgot his name…, Jeeva, Sett and Angela.

bottom l-r: Magesh, Bala, Dr. Karthik, Venga, Desmond and Praveena.

The butter prawns were SOooooo good.

And it was also Prof. Luke’s birthday! So kind of Prof. Smales to arrange for a birthday cake for him.:)

Preparing to blow the candles..

We taught our foreign lecturers the tradition of Yam Seng!

Crowding around Prof. Luke, anticipating his reaction to his present.

Chawn Horng and I

A candid shot of Lie Yuen and Nien having a heart to heart.

See, I got Prof. Luke hooked on it too. Wakkaka. I don’t think he remembers my name though. He knows me as the “girl with the camera”. I’m always going around the practical sessions with my camera – it HAS proved to be beneficial as I managed to score myself an A for the Oral Biology OSPA(a practical paper). But I got a C for his theory paper. Oh well, at least I didn’t fail anything this time around. C for Oral Biology, C for Pathology, B for Microbiology, B+ for Dentistry(so close to a distinction.;(), and even a B+ for my tooth carving exercises!:D

Almost a group picture, almost.

Lie Yuen and I with Prof. Smales.

The guys and Prof. Luke

The girls with Prof. Luke. See how much daintier(?) we look compared to the boys’ pic.

Nien and I playing with the stage props. (Obviously not for our little party…)

A mountain of dental students.

Never in my entire one and a half years in Sungai Petani have I ever tasted such delicious food.

Pathetic man. Grow up. I am getting more and more convinced that these private universities for professionals wannabe r hooked on making a fast bucks out of you guys. Lucky you all.

jo: it’s just a dinner which my lecturer treated us to.   .. exactly what is the problem with my post that has caused you to react like that? The university recruited my dean who was the dean of dentistry in one of the UK universities and my dean and his team of lecturers helped start up the dental course in Hong Kong University.

They have worked very hard with University Malaya to write our syllabus and have incorporated syllabus from Hong Kong University and Bristol to form a rather integrated dental course for us.

It is a young university and the faculty is extremely small. we’re all a tight knitted family and I don’t see how does THAT in ANY way, looks pathetic.

I’ll be looking forward to your explanation. And so what if it is a private university? If I can afford it, I don’t see what’s the problem.

not EVERYBODY is fortunate enough to fit into the miniscule quota allowed for places in any of the public universities to study dentistry.
