There’s ALOT Going On In The Blogosphere

Posted on March 5, 2007February 8, 2008 by Jolene

Good things of course!

If you do not already know, the most exciting thing that has hit the blogosphere recently is Nuffnang – The Blog Ad Community. What has constantly been kept as a humble “little dot com” by Boss Stewie in his blog entries where he’d blog about the progress of his up and coming business, it has been revealed by the man himself to be a network of sorts which link bloggers and advertisers.

The two handsome and young bosses of Nuffnang.

Boss Stewie or Timothy Tiah as he is called in real life, started the business with his good friend Ming who manages the going ons in Singapore for Nuffnang. The two friends are very passionate about the things they do and since they both have big dreams to make Nuffnang happen, Nuffnang will be big!

Having met the two guys in real life, I found them both to be very charismatic and humble. Hearing them go on and on about the purpose of Nuffnang, you can’t help but feel so taken with their ideas that you just wanna drench them with your support. Eh, figuratively speaking.

Allow me to explain as best as I can about this business that they’ve got going on.

Most blog advertising are carried out by foreign companies and local bloggers who allow these foreign companies to advertise on their blogs, are not able to utilize their full potentials. The ads are irrelevant to Malaysian(and Singapore bloggers for the Singapore Nuffnang division) bloggers and therefore appear to be less enticing, which defeats the purpose of advertising in the first place. Nuffnang scours for local advertisers and connect these advertisers with their clientèle of bloggers.

Anyone would assume that only the big names in the blogosphere would be asked to put up advertisements on their blogs for obvious reasons. But with Nuffnang, what they believe in is the power of a community.

An average, relatively unknown blog gets about 20-30 hits a day as opposed to the big players who are in the thousands of unique hits per day range. With 50 bloggers who gets 20-30 hits a day, the traffic could add up to be more than a so called big name blogger’s traffic. It makes sense!

With a whole army of bloggers behind Nuffnang, they are able to offer their best to the advertisers and we, the bloggers, benefit from their reapings as well.

Bloggers can add scripts to their sidebar and the ads will generate according to the campaign you are currently under.

See, Nuffnang will match advertisers to the right audience and this increases the relevancy of your ads to your readers. It’s quite alot of work on their part but at least a pretty girly blog won’t be tarnished with an ugly ad about real estate agencies but maybe an equally pink looking javascript advertising about the latest pink phone in the market.

So here’s a shoutout to all the other readers and bloggers who drop by my blog to give your support to Timothy and Ming and make Nuffnang a raging success! With your participation, they can do so much more!

And no, they did not bribe me to do this entry. I wanted to do it for them.

I’m sure you’ve all heard that Wingz of Rojaks.blogspot.com has been breaking his back organizing a blog meet which he aptly calls Bloggers Together Gather!

Seems like there is quite a number of blog meets popping up as of late, which is good, which is good. *nods encouragingly*
When all these relatively mini blog meets congregate as one, just imagine the size… I believe it would be called a Blog Convention then.

While Wingz is not exactly throwing a convention yet, I’d say it is a brave step towards a bigger dream. Since this is his first time organizing a blog meet, I hope most of you would give him your support. I try to help him out in anyway possible but I cannot confirm my attendance yet(but I MIGHT go) because I’m not sure how my schedule will be like on the 9th. I don’t know if I should skip my practical classes. Decisions, decisions.

Wingz and his committee have been working very hard to make this meet a success. They’ve gone out of their way to get sponsors for this event and familiar names like Pikom, Cinemaonline, Digi, Nuffnang, Pianoforte and Pixart are generously showing their support.

To echo other bloggers’ thoughts, it is always a noble deed to get the bloggers to congregate together to just meet, talk and camwhore. It is very simple. Here’s a list of bloggers who will be there at the event.

An event like this will path the way to greater things in the future, so we need your support now. The Malaysian blogging community needs to strengthen their bonds constantly. As a whole, we can do alot of things for ourselves and for other people as well. By coming together, we can further develop our purposes and if we have not, then discover our purposes as bloggers even!

Behind each blog is a person. A person who knows and has something different than what you know and have. By coming together, we can do so much more for each other. A friend, an ally, a connection.

… ok, clearly I’ve been watching too much of Heroes.

So, please, show your support!
