Sometime ago, I was fingering the earrings hung on display at random stalls set up all over the shopping mall. Don’t you think that the 3 for RM10 earrings are such a bore these days? The prettier ones can set you back RM25 or even RM40. Which is ridiculous really. I never pay more than RM15 for a pair of earrings.
And whose fault is it? It’s those damn 3 for RM10 earrings that have brain washed me for life. Sure, I get all excited when I see a whole array of cheap earrings to choose from but I’m not that lucky all the time. Not every extremely discounted item is beautiful.
As I touched, lifted and put back the more expensive earrings, admiring it’s glittering and sparkling diamentes, I can’t help but yearn and know that I will never fork out good money for something I can get at a lower price. Thus, I have to compromise beauty in the process. In a way, I will always be short changing myself and this will never change. The way I perceive this will always remain so.
I must get out of my 3 for RM10 mentality. Cheap and mediocre plastic earrings cannot satisfy me forever.
I’m not sure how this will relate, but Abby once told us that movies are bad for us. They raise our expectations so high that everything in real life pales in comparison and we do just that, compare, compare and eventually give up on our expectations and let them go.
Reality is not all that and more. At one point we will finally know that somethings will never happen for us. Abby used relationships as an example. The reason why we find faults in our relationships is because of the things we see on the silver screen. No man buys you flowers everyday, no man sings to you from below your balcony(and not many of us have balconies to begin with), no man runs after the bus that you’re sobbing in, no man sings into the PA system while running away from security, no man surprises you with a bouquet of balloon for no reason at all…. no man can do what we expect.
But this was said a good 4 or 5 years ago. Back when we were still seniors in high school. Since then, most of us have matured into women and we got out of our 3 for RM10 mentality. If the selections are so-so, pay more to get a better one.
Better things are worth the effort.
Maybe better things last longer than cheap earrings. 🙂
Yeah…i agree sometimes quality do counts if u wanna have along lasting items…but then again, i sometimes shop on impulse…recently bought a jacket for RM200, a lot considering i’m still studying…but i think it’s worth while…hafta kept telling myself that or else the guilt of over spending will drown me…it’s worth while…it’s worth while…worth while…worth while…
jo: lol, well..sometimes RM200 can buy you something reallly worth while.:) seriously.

human greed is insatiable, when you get your RM 25 earrings, you start to look for Swatch ones, then you start to adore glittering pairs from Swarovski. No long after, nothing but that pair of diamond Cartier appeals to you, and afterwards you really wanna lay your hands on that custom made, classy ear rings hand crafted by a Swiss designer.
At the end, you may realise nothing beats the first pair of ear rings that you received as a gift? =) self satisfaction is paramount. But i think you should be treated a nice pair of expensive earrings once in a while. *hints to CK* =D
jo: actually, almost everybody couldn’t read the meaning of my post. i’m sorely disappointed. i must’ve been too cryptic. 3 for RM10 earrings was merely a metaphor. Sigh. you’re one of the closest ones to the meaning. hehehhee… maybe when i start working. but until now, my frivolousness will go towards clothes.;D

You get what you pay for, I always believe in that. Well, that and quality over quantity *thinks of 300*. hehehe 😀
jo: 🙂 I must try to adhere to that mentality. thanks.;)
–
true enough but you get to change earrings on a daily basis with cheap ones man 😛 Everyday a new look!
jo: 🙂 yeap, that’s the plan!~
–
i like my RM3 earrings. Goes well with my flower print dress. OMG, did i just SAY that?!
jo: OMG! we should SO trade earrings in the future! like, totally!! *waves fingers together like in WHite Chicks*
–
lol they’re not that bad.. the last time i saw a stall like dat, most of the earings were pretty and don’t look cheap at all~~~
jo: really depends on luck one…
–
i attended this public workshop last month, and the trainer said this that i find very true and useful..
“Good things may not be cheap…
Cheap things may not be good…”
jo: perhaps the closest commentator who understood my meaning……

I have always carried the mentality that if you really, really like something, it’s worthwhile to pay a little more; rather than you pay a lesser price for something that you have lukewarm feelings for.
For example, you could buy a pair of earrings that you LOVED which costs RM15, OR , you could purchase 3 pairs that you don’t LOVE and could probably do without for RM10… For the RM5 difference, you got something you truly like— and THAT’s always a bargain. 🙂
Only spend $$$ on things you LOVE!
But then again, I am a shopaholic, so, you probably shouldn’t listen to me! 😉
jo: LOL I feel you babes. I know the whole ‘love’ thing. I feel it when I see something I really like when I’m shopping..:D
–
I actually prefer to get a set of genuine gold/silver/pearl earrings that go with everything. It’s more expensive but you get to wear them all the time. Not so much headache.
jo: 🙂 I like variety!
–
But I refer to them movies for ideas :p But yeah movies are mostly superficial.
On less-beautiful things… It’s only proportional to the $$ you’re paying! ;p
jo: now YOU’RE a good man:D
–
hey jolene, may i know where u got the earring holder? i would love to get one. thank u so so much..have a nice day
jo: well, do you know where Kemayan ATC is?(the law school near petaling street)…it’s the row opposite the row that kemayan is on. it’s on the same row as the coffin shop. good luck.

At last, the nightmare layout is gone, forever.
This is much, much neater and nice to look at.
