I’m A Subang Patriot!

Me too!! I’m also a regular girl who grew up in Subang!!

Hahaha, don’t know why but I just felt so warm inside when I saw Daniel’s quote and I just found it so ….menyemangatkan!(spirit giving?)

I’ve always been proud of my hometown! (I can hear Lie Yuen rolling her eyes) It made me think of all the wonderful people I know in Subang and have heard about who came out of Subang. 🙂 Whenever Subang gets referred as Malaysia’s Education Hub, I feel a sense of pride deep inside.

It’s been quite a while since I last wrote an ode for Subang Jaya, so here’s one for you, my childhood Subangians!!

Driving along the Federal Highway,
There are two turnings into Subang that you can make,
And If you can no longer see the Lakeview Lake,
All I can say is that Klang got nice Bak Kut Teh.

Everyone’s a member of Holiday Villa,
Weddings and proms mostly at Shangri-La,
Growing up in Subang, involved a lot of swimming,
3 am, 4am, 5am, yet nobody is sleeping.

If you came into this world via SJMC,
Confirm you’re not the same generation as me,
But if you learned how to walk in Subang Parade,
You and I would probably be around the same age.

A long time ago we had many sleepless nights,
The roaring of the engines as planes took flight,
A time when the airport was only minutes away,
Instead of the 45 minutes journey to KLIA.

Which child wouldn’t scream with glee,
At the sight of the old KFC,
Home to the greatest playground in town,
Where little children would run around.

Weekends spent at Toys ‘R’ Us,
The cravings for toys got worse and worse,
Riding the chut chut train in the arcade,
Situated at the back of Subang Parade.

Remember when Sunway Lagoon first opened its doors,
Roller coasters and water slides, what a sight it was!
A decade and a half later,
Now it’s only memories from the yesteryears.

Jogging and fishing at the Lakeview Lake,
In the distance, the KTM starts to brake,
Our childhood spent believing in crocodiles,
That terrorized the lake with other reptiles.

SRSS19, SKSJ, Sri Subang, SS17 and Lick Hung,
Most of us did not know our mother tongue.
Poking fun at the kids from Sri KL,
But came college and we got on well.

The girls did ballet, the boys did Taekwando,
But everybody’s mother made them play the piano.
Rehat time, must play Tali Getah,
Those who found it sissy would play pepsi cola.

SU, SJ, Seafield, USJ4 and 17,
Schools we went to when we turned thirteen.
Losing count of the schools in USJ,
Feeling sad when friends were sent away.

Scorching hot Sports Days at MPSJ,
Always thinking of how to run away,
Walking to the ‘toilet’, and then we would run,
You’d find most of us, yamchaing at Taipan.

IU days and Installations, they were plenty,
Your face, my face, among the many,
A chance for all to glitter and glam,
Charity, schmarity, what a sham.

Sometimes a minister would plan to visit,
Throwing the school teachers into a giddy fit,
Red carpet, kompang, bunga mangga to beautify the school,
The minister never comes and we all look like fools.

Tuition classes were a must,
Not good enough if you only passed,
The legendary John Quek and his intensive classes,
The guy who cleverly brought A1s to the masses.

Scratching our heads, feeling amused,
Out-of-towners utilizing the skating ring we never use,
What’s so great, about Pyramid?
We’ve been there since we were kids.

Done with our SPMs, we learnt to drive,
Stay away from the Federal highway loop to survive,
Illegal races, spoiling our weekends,
Damn mothafuckas should be banned.

Envying your collegemates who came from everywhere,
What time you went home, nobody would care.
But home was Subang and mum and dad would scold,
“Come back so late, sleep so late, later grow old!”

Now we’ve grown and scattered far and wide,
Holidays and breaks become harder to coincide,
We see each other less and less,
So many of us have flown the nest.

Strange that I’m more patriotic towards my hometown(which doesn’t even have a Town Anthem?) than I am towards my country. Ho Ho Ho.

I love Subang, don’t you?:)

P/s: Fellow Subangians might want to try a hand at figuring out what the verses mean so that people from out of town can comprehend what I’m trying to say.

Jolene’s New Beauty Regime: Estee Lauder’s Nutritious Skincare Collection

Today I will be venturing into uncharted territory! I’m quite a simple girl(eh don’t you dare laugh). So simple that some might even call me ‘lazy’. But i refuse to use that word, I believe it is called Unnecessary Effort For Unnecessary Circumstances. I just wash my face with a RM10.90 Clean and Clear facial cleanser and then dab my face dry and don’t even bother to tone or moisturize. (I think I hear Su-Chien falling down the stairs after suffering from a heart attack upon reading that. Little bit of history: Chien is the one with the most beautiful skin among all of us as she’s been taking care of it very very very well.)

I guess all it took was an email from Miss Jean Loh, who is the PR Manager for Estee Lauder, to ask if I was interested to review a new range of products from Estee Lauder. SURE LAH I WAS INTERESTED! Hehe.

I hope I didn’t scare her with my enthusiasm thus ruining any future opportunities of products reviewing. ;\

In her email, she enquired about my skin type and my beauty regime?

No regime that’s why face like that lor. 🙁 But she said that my oily t-zone and forehead is normal for my age. However, my skin is freaking oily(I can fill up the entire Clean and Clear Oil Film… (when I let Lie Yuen read the post, she said it sounds like I’m reviewing Clean and Clear products more than Estee Lauder..haha)) but my skin doesn’t look shiny at all. I also had to admit to her that I’m not a very disciplined person when it comes to putting all sorts of things on my face.

Therefore, she asked me to try using Estee Lauder’s Nutritious Skincare Collection. Damn cute, on the card that she tied to the bag containing the products, she wrote, “Dear Jolene, Thank you for agreeing to try Nutritious – do use it regularly! Hope you have great stuff to blog about Nutritious! Best regards, Jean.” Hehe, paiseh, she had to make sure that I would use it regularly.

Since I’m still very excited about the prospect of having products from Estee Lauder to review, I’ve been using the products diligently everyday. After almost two weeks of usage, I think I’m ready to write the review. *takes a deep breath*. Here goes…!

May I present to you…. Estee Lauder’s Nutritious Skincare Collection!
l-r: Nutritious Restorative Night Cream, Nutritious Purifying 2-in-1 Foam Cleanser, Nutritious Vita-Mineral Radiance Essence, Nutritious Vita-Mineral Moisture Milk.

I’ve always envied girls who have this glow on their faces. I know beauty products can achieve that soft rosey glow that brightens up the plainest of faces. The Nutritious Skincare Collection focuses on maintaining beautiful radiant skin and sustaining a youthful look.

Yalor, so far so good. No little kids have been calling me Aunty for quite a while now.

The Nutritious Purifying 2-in-1 Foam Cleanser(RM90) is supposed to be used in the morning and when you bathe before you sleep! You can use it as a normal foaming cleanser in the morning and then use it as a deep purifying cleanser at night. Deep purifying cleanser meaning, as I’ve just learnt, is to use it without water. This cleanser is said to neutralize pollution generated free radicals before they can cause damage to the skin.

I don’t quite like the feeling of gloopy stuff to be rubbed on my face without it being watery.. so I still use it as a normal foaming cleanser at night! You know how at the end of a long day, your face feels so oily and sticky? This Foam Cleanser just strips all the oil residue away. It’s a damn comfortable feeling! Lie Yuen even tried some of it and she said there were squeaky noises when her finger rubbed against her cheeks.

As you can see, visually, the texture of the cleanser looks like it could very well be a scrub. It smells familiar in a citrus-y kind of way.. but according to the guide I was given, it consists of licorice extract, pomegranate oil extract, rice extracts and palmetto fruit extract. All these extracts have different properties that contribute to the benefits of this foam cleanser.

And you do feel it’s a little rough.

But as you spread it all over your face right, you can’t feel any of those ‘micro beads’ that they use in scrubs. It just becomes foam. And just a little bit is enough to wash your entire face! At least your RM90 will be worth it!

The Nutritious Vita-Mineral Radiance Essence(RM175) is used both morning and night after washing your face with the Foam Cleanser. In the full set, there’s actually another product which should be used before the Radiance Essence called The Nutritious Vita-Mineral Energy Lotion.

The functions of the essence is to renew the skin’s natural glow and energy, restore clarity and rejuvenate the skin’s natural support system.

Now, these are the exact features I’m looking for in a skin product. I’ve always felt that my skin lacks colour, it tends to look plain and dull… so I’ve actually been hunting high and low for a product like this.

It’s a clear liquid which is slightly sticky to the touch. Think Hand Sanitizer! it’s easy to spread on your skin and the same rule applies, no need to use so much!

My favourite product of the lot – The Nutritious Vita-Mineral Moisture Milk!(RM165) It’s got this very milky-moisturizerish(yes I created that word. Bite me.) type of scent. Like a lighter version of the Foam Cleanser’s scent. However, this is only applied in the morning, after applying the Vita-Mineral Radiance Essence. It’s more for hydration purposes. There’s also another product called The Nutritious Vita-Mineral Moisture Creme but I was only given the Moisture Milk to try. Apparently the Moisture Creme is for deep hydration.

In the Moisture Milk(and Moisture Creme) formula, there are essential fatty acids from melon fruit and avocado extract that can help rebuild and strengthen the skin barrier protecting the skin against environmental irritants and water loss.

Unlike your standard moisturizer, the formula feels like a cream when you pump it out of the bottle and then when you rub it on your face, it feels very watery.

See? We all know that I portray masculine attributes every now and then almost all the time(my father wants to send me to How To Be A Proper Lady classes. I tell him, “But dad, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks!”) but by adhering to a beauty regime and having such milky silky formula to put on my skin in the mornings, I really feel ……um.. … shy to say leh.. but I do feel very feminine. Since my boyfriend is so far away, I have to caress my own cheeks and tell myself, “Wah, so soft…….”. So poor thing hor. 🙁

Flipping through magazines like Seventeen, Cleo etc, I realize that the beauty editors make beautiful art out of the products that they are given to sample. This is my pathetic attempt at beauty products art work. It’s a butterfly by the way.:D

And here’s the final one of the four products that I was given to try – The Nutritious Restorative Night Creme!(RM175). This is only used at night(duh.) and is used after using the Radiance Essence formula. Its functions are to regenerate natural skin function, replenish moisture and stimulate natural skin hydration. Very good for girls like me who sleep at 4am or 5am. Well, to be honest, nobody has started gushing about how great my skin is nowadays. But since I haven’t been receiving my daily dosage of “Wah why you look so tired today?”s, I’ll take it as a sign that these products are doing me some good. Thank you Jean!!:D

It’s richer in texture and among all the products, the scent of the Restorative Night Creme is closest to the Foam Cleanser.

The consistency of the night creme is..oh how do you say…uh.. more viscous as compared to the Moisture Milk(I lovelovelove). Not to say that it is like pei tai(nose booger juice… I mean mucous) type of consistency.. but it doesn’t really flow..? OH WAIT I THINK I KNOW HOW TO DESCRIBE IT. Like the cream on your birthday cake. Hahh!.:) It feels slightly greasy upon application, but as you keep rubbing it into your skin, the greasy feeling will go away and you’ll feel that your skin is much softer and hydrated. I’m not trying to be a suck up lah, I’m serious. Go try it yourself!

Compare with the Moisture Milk photo and you’ll get what I’m trying to say.

Of course must pan cute with my very hydrating moisturizer. Nope, no photoshopping has been done to the photo, okay? That’s why I said, the products are really effective. If you think the psychological effects are more effective than the physical effects…OKAY, don’t believe me nevermind, I’ll take another photo in a month’s time and show you that my skin is still soft looking!

Well….The Nutritious Skincare Collection is not exactly plastic surgery laa.(my face is still like that, didn’t change, so sorry.) But at least it keeps your skin feeling soft, and that’s the most important thing. And of course the scent of the products will make you want more! So my skin got glow abit or not? Got abit lah right! (making me happy won’t die one you know.)

For those of you are into the whole scent mumbojumbo(which I’m not very well versed about), here’s the list of extracts that are used to create the fragrance: Grapefuit, Chinese Orange, Black Current, Fresh Rhubarb Asian Pear and Cherry Blossoms. For the soft sheer finish(ie top notes – I think that’s the term that they use in Scentology), they use Lotus flower, Pink Orchid and Fruity Musk. Very very nice.

The other products from the collection that I did not get to try are the Nutritious Vita-Mineral Energy Lotion, Nutritious Vita-Mineral Gel Creme and Nutritious UV Protector SPF 50/PA ++.

I think the products can last me until I get my next cheque from R.age(when I have the time to write more articles) or by next Chinese New Year, then I’ll go replenish my products. I really really love the Moisture Milk alot. Yes, that is a hint.

For more reviews, head on over to Suanie’s and Fireangel’s. They’ve done their reviews weeks before I did mine, though.

Roleplaying: Dealing With Elderly Patients/My Earrings Carousel/Dental Dinner Performances Practice

We have a class called Communication Skills where we would learn about the most effective ways to deal with the many situations which we would face in our career. I think marketing students and other communication students have this subject too. But obviously we have to deal with more specific topics like dealing with young patients, dealing with elderly people etc. and marketing students would probably have to deal with things like problematic customers ya?

Our lecturer injects fun into the class by getting us to come out to do a little role playing. I managed to get a video of two of my classmates, Andy and Bala, who went up to the front to act out a scene where an old man goes to the dentist and the dentist has trouble communicating with a stingy, partially deaf old man.

Now, I’ve downloaded a video converter and I’ve learned how to use Windows Movie Maker(which doesn’t play .MOV files thus the need to download that video converter) so I actually have a video to put up on Youtube! 😀 I even added titles..and credits! LOL. It’s me making those sounds when the credits roll. It didn’t take me very long lah if you’re all concerned about me not studying. Wait la! Now I start studying lorh! After this blog entry! Promise.

Just give me face and load the entire video. My first attempt at mini movie making. Wahahha.

As mentioned in a previous entry(can’t remember which one), I said I bought an earrings tower(or a carousel, if you wish to call it that). Here’re the photos of the latest addition to the decor(BWAHAHHAAHA..) of my room.

Since I’m very proud of it, there’ll be many many photos showing all sides of it.

I think there are about 80+ pairs of holes in this carousel.

And no, these are not ALL my earrings. 😀 I still have tons back home!

You know how those 3 for RM10 earrings are the same in all shopping malls? And if you realize, there are actually earring trends. Now, let me tell you something so that you’ll be ahead of the game. Go to Subang Parade on a reguar basis. Earrings that will eventually be trendy will appear there first. And there are tons of stalls there selling 3 for RM10 earrings.

I hung my bracelets in the middle and stuck my glittery hair pin thing in the middle too. Damn freaking functional.

Random shot of my purple earrings.

l-r: Appropriate teeth earrings, Sushi Earrings from Chee Kiang.

And faux glass(it’s plastic, duh) earrings from Subang Parade. I was using my new glasses to buy them so I had difficulties looking at the selection of earrings. I had a headache after that.

Coincidentally, Cze-Yin’s sister’s boyfriend’s mum sells earrings carousel as well. I’m currently waiting for her sms as she’s asking her sister to ask her boyfriend to ask his mum how much she’s selling her carousels for. I bought mine for RM48. And it’s only like 20cm tall? Apparently Cze-Yin said that her sister’s boyfriend’s mum also sells carousels which are about 1ft tall. But don’t know how much lah. Later I tell you all when she sends me the sms.

So if you guys want to order, just email me or let me know and I’ll help you to get the carousels:D

Then you can tell people, “Oh, I got it from my bloggerfriend’s classmate’s sister’s boyfriend’s mum.” (or insert any appropriate relative title)

As you all know, besides studying for the exam, we’ve been busy practising for our dental dinner.

I’m involved in an indian dance.

Pretty upbeat.. no video, so sorry.

I like this photo quite alot! It SO has the effect that we wanted to portray.

I like this part of the dance too as we get to gyrate our hips while doing some praying motion with our hands.

And this is the end bit. There’s suppose to be another guy behind me.. but he was having classes.(He’s one of our juniors).

On Wednesday(or is it? Can’t quite remember), we had ‘auditions’ for the dental dinner performances. But of course everybody gets to perform la. Sheesh. This is Melvin, Um-sorry-forgot-her-name-forgive-me and Adrian doing Utada Ikaru’s First Love. It’s sort of like an MTV, where they act out the scenes too as they sing.

And here’s one for the ladies. Adrian, Ken and Lun, all rather good looking guys by the way, sang Eagle’s Love Will Keep Us Alive. Damn lam!

Here, got video to prove to you girls:

Brain Spasms Of The Nocturnal Girl

It’s the second day of my period and I feel just a slightly bit moody. Forgot to take in the underwear that has been hung out to dry so I have to resort to disposable undies. Which is convenient anyway. But it’s not comfortable as the elastic is only so strong. Thus, walking around in my loose shorts with a pad sitting on a pair of disposables…..isn’t quite the best thing in the world. So yes, feel in the rest of the blanks with your very vivid imagination.(I should have trained all of you rather well by now.)

I haven’t been sleeping early(but since when have I ever?) for the past few days. Going to bed at about 5am.. yes, exams are around the corner. Top it off with my very very bad procrastinating habits and this is what you get.

I’ve actually editted a batch of photos but my brain is like vibrating and spasming from the tiredness I feel. But I told myself that no matter what I must complete just three more pages of my dental plaque notes and then I can retire to bed. But I really wanted to blog just because I haven’t been blogging properly for the past few days as well. I’m just too tired.

I feel my breathing is slightly suppressed.. and I need to raise the muscles around my eyebrows to keep myself from falling asleep. I have no strength to lift up the muscles of my eyelids. I’m shivering abit too. But that’s because the air con was on for the entire day. It’s either damn hot or damn cold here in Kedah. Rainy season too!

I can really feel my brain/head/whatever clenching up, and unclenching, clenching..and then relaxing and then … emptiness.

No coffee tonight, that’s why. 🙁

I KNOW I should go to bed. Just two more pages. TWO.

The vibration is going to the back of my ears and pressure is building up between my eyes. I feel a thudding pressure at the back of my head.. oh god I really need to stop this and go to bed.

I shall put the blame on this website –> http://www.tv-links.co.uk. Go knock yourself out. Lie Yuen and I had a great time watching Charlie and The Chocolate Factory over there.

And for the dental dinner, we’re rethinking Stand By Me. We don’t quite have the stamina to sing it loudly.. and the da da dum people say that they get distracted after awhile and thus ruin the whole song.

So we need a song that oldies and people who do not like worldly songs will like.(Staunch christians.. gotta respect my friends). Nothing about holding you close tonight or kissing you under stars or i need you tonights or even the touch of your fingers etc etc.

We’re thinking Ain’t No Mountain High Enough(I’ve just listened to it …and it’s gonna be quite tough!) or Catch a Falling Star! We considered Seasons In The Sun before… but yawn yawn.

And as a joke, we wanted to do The Lion Sleeps Tonight. I like the Ah Weeeee part. haha.

Suggestions please!
