Do you notice how suddenly a couple of your friends will just pair up out of the blue, with no prior warning before hand?
Obviously it is none of my business, but these things are always shocking because the most unexpected of people will pair up and they won’t be much fun anymore once they start pairing off.
What happened to the good ol’ days of the guys patting the boy-admirer on his back and teasing him whenever the girl walk past? Or a gaggle of girlfriends of the girl giggling at the boy-admirer.
I remember back in school, when a boy likes a girl, it will be made known to the entire school. People will start to tease the both of them. That’s the first hint which the girl will get. He will probably order a rose or a cheap gift from whichever school societies which are offering the services in order to raise funds. The girl will feel so proud that her name gets called when the delivery boy comes to the class and she will stride up to the front, blushing, and taking the rose/gift and going back to her chair to sit down and blush somemore.
A chrous of “Oooooooh” will ripple through her class. And she blushes more.
We don’t really know what they do together because that is their business. For all I know it could probably be late night chats through ICQ, hours long phone calls and sometimes maybe daily walking home sessions.
Slowly.. the more you see them walking together around school, the closer it is to the day that the guy will……”ask for couple” from the girl.
Hahaha. Such events usually take place over the phone/under a tree/on a bench.
Don’t know why, but that’s how it usually happened. LOL.
Letters passing are damn passe what with the freedom of communication that the internets provide.
When a guy pursues a girl, there would be a whole show about it.
Back then, I would change my ICQ Info to drop subtle hints to the guy that I like. God damn, just imagine if I was blogging already then! And how easier it is to drop all these hints. Emo poems everywhere.
I’ll let you in on a few of my cannot use techniques.
I used this one quite alot:
I’d try to tell as many people about my crush and FOR SURE he’ll hear about it. And see how he responds. I’d go around my friends/his friends/mutual friends and try to get the word out.
And whoever said it works? LOL.
When I was much younger, early secondary, I’d make my crushes NICE birthday cards. Hand made and stuff. Hahaha. Nope, didn’t work either.
I’d find excuses to walk home with the crushes or bug them to accompany me to the shop lots or something.
I remember once I thought this prefect who was in the year BELOW me was cute. So I sent him a rose via one of those Interact/Leo services thingie. It’s like if I think that this boy is easier to communicate with, my hints won’t be so subtle.
Most of my crushes were scared of me. “Oh shit..JOLENE. HIDE!!” haha. 🙁
The only brave one who can swallow it all is dear Chee Kiang. LOL.

What I am trying to say is that back then, we had a period of chasing and wanting and aching before anything really materialised.
These days, mutual friends are hardly needed in the equation for anything romantic to happen between two people. Maybe growing up means you can handle your own situations all by yourself. I guess it is nicer this way. Back then the pressure to get together with a certain someone was so great because everybody will be watching your every whim and fancy with the prolonged chasing period. Maybe that’s why people pair up quickly these days.
A very very good example would be a couple of my friends in form1. The ENTIRE form1 knew that the boy was ‘madly in love’ with the girl. One time when the teachers had an emergency meeting, it was inevitable for the classes to burst into chaos. The boy was from 1A and the girl was from my class. A lot of people gathered outside his class and were like standing around him. You could hear people shouting, “Go lah!! Go and talk to her!!” and the girl was just standing cooly at the balcony. Kepo people like me were running up and down the corridor wanting to know what’s the latest this side and what’s the latest that side.
The girl shyly said, “He wants to talk to me ar?”
And he said things like, “Damn, I want to ask her for couple..”
“YALAH!! YOU SHOULD LA!! GO MAN GO!!” came the high pitched chorus from pre-pubescent boys and girls alike.
“Eh…don’t want lah. I shy,” He potong steamed.
All the students from 1A right up till 1D were hurtling back and forth trying to pair the two up.
Then he said, “I think I’ll ask her for couple in form4 lorh. Form1 only now. So young. Study first. Study first.”
Hahahahha. See what I mean by pressure?

Do any of you remember this?
Two years back, I wrote on my blog that this college acquaintance of mine was working with me on a photoshoot for the A Levels classes. He turned around and accidentally jabbed his elbow and ter-compressed my boob. He turned around and asked me, “So how now?!” … I started laughing immediately because I was expecting an apology and nothing so random. It soon became a catch phrase among my friends. Girls would step on boys or accidentally brush themselves against a guy and haughtily said, “So how now?!!” (think Jocelyn and Smalls. hahah). So of course lah, something so funny, i HAD to blog about it.
The next day he left a comment, “Remove that fairy tale about me or else I will initiate legal proceedings against you.”
I was more surprised about his-cannot-take-jokes ability than about him finding my blog. So I was pissed lah. Besides, if anyone should sue, as I have said SO many times before, it was me. The one whose boob got compressed. He would then ignore me in college and of course I wasn’t fazed by it because he was nobody to me. Once, being the bigger person, I even wrote him a long long email telling him that I’m sorry and that it was a joke. He never replied. Fine by me lorh, if you want to be childish go on and be a child.
But surprise surprise! I got NEW information about the whole incident. Apparently he told his classmates about it and they perceived me to be a big bad bitch but once they read what I wrote, they were like, “eh? what’s the big deal?”
And oh. Get this. He said that I was jealous of him because he knew so many people. PLEASE LAAA.. all I did say was, “Wah! You know alot of people horh!” when he was waving left and right at friends of mine from high school during the photoshoot. I can’t remember what he said, so I better not quote him, or else I kena sue. But it wasn’t very nice.
HAIYOH Since when do I get jealous of people knowing many people? I have to SPRING CLEAN my handphone address book and MSN contact list in my free time lah. So free to fret about not having enough of acquaintances? *rolls eyes*
And even my step cousin(mind you, he did not provide me with the above information), once said that due to the incident, he thought that I was such a bitch before he really knew me.
