At least this time around, my new year’s eve had a reason and a purpose. I had tickets to attend an actual event instead of being the usual lost soul that I am year in year out. It’s nice to have somewhere to go. 🙂 Thanks Kim for the two tickets to the Midzone 2008 Countdown Party!
While at the registration booth, I saw the list of bloggers. It took me awhile to figure out which (real) name belonged to which blogger. It was very interesting how they derived their monikers from their real names!
Chee Kiang and I wandered off for grubs.
Check out the door gift! I’m also very proud of my media tag. My very first!
And I finally got to see the beautiful Christmas decorations at Midvalley! Everyone’s raving about how beautifully orange it was this year.
To kill time, a few of us chilled at Starbucks before the event!
l-r: Josephine, Daryl, Kok/Keong?, Melvin and Chee Kiang(so proud of his media tag!)
That was where the action was! So beautifully lit!
You can even have your picture taken with fake mist.
Eng Hooi, Eng Hooi’s sister(omg I’m sorry sorry sorry your name slipped my mind. Shireen? Kristen? ARGH~!!! I’m sorry!!!!), Chee Kiang. Eng Hooi’s sister is an intern at the Sun hence she had two tickets and decided to bring Eng Hooi along. So kind of her. 🙂
And then that’s me, with the wrong flash function. 🙁
There were dancers up on the podiums to get the crowd going. A bit too agressive for me.
Me posing nervously next to the dancer.
There were more girls
Chee Kiang purposely stood in the middle of the crowd so I could get this shot of a grandma who came for the event. She was staring at the sexy dancers doing their thang.
The Dj-ing area.
The crowd was slowly heating up but it was still about an hour away from midnight.
Another shot of the stage!
A really pimped up Smart Car! It is a Smart car right?
We went back into Starbucks again and camwhored.
We were still being proud of our media tags.
Good reasons to take photos with!
The coolest part for me was probably walking in the rain towards the green laser lights. The photo does no justice to what I saw with my own eyes. It was like walking through millions of tiny green diamonds. Yolu can make out a little sparkle at the top of the photo.
The people started taking to the stage.
The both of us making through the sea of wet ravers.
Since I’m such a noob, I was totally blown away when the big rubber balloons were released! Everyone hit it up and it would float in the air for a bit and come back down to the eager crowd.
Team effort!
What a party!
And the clock finally strikes 12. 🙂 Happy New Year everyone! Happy 2008!
The laser effects were too cool for words.
The big white balloon continues to entertain the crowd.
A few minutes after midnight, the highly anticipated choreographed fireworks shot up into the sky.
It was the longest fireworks I’ve ever had the chance to see. Usually it would end before I’m satisfied.
This time around, my neck even started to ache as the fireworks didn’t seem to end.
A liondance lion in the crowd.
Raining sparkles! This was damn cool! At one point, fireworks were released from the top of the bridge(which was behind me) and it hit the corner of a nearby building and launched into the sky. DAMN DAMN AWESOME!
Daryl and Chee Kiang!
Group photo.
l-r: Oops can’t remember his name, Daryl, Chee Kiang, Me, Josephine, Melvin, Keong/Kok
Kim and i! Out of nowhere she grabbed me and screamed, “HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!” Such a happy woman!
l-r: Skyler, Jen, Myself. We were supposed to hang out a bit more but due to network problems, I couldn’t seem to contact them.
I quite like this shot!
OMG It’s Dabido! I didn’t know he was down! This dude is Australian yet he’s famous in the Malaysian blogosphere for posting long ass comments. 🙂 Very wise comments at that too!
l-r: Shaolintiger, Earl-Ku, Me, Jack, Dabido/David.
For a moment there I thought I was watching some animation on stage. It was actually a real human being in a special suit under the laser lights. SO chun!!
Check that out. I’ve never seen anything like that before.
On the way out, we spotted this poor giant balloon dying away. 🙁
Apparently this event will be an annual thing. I’ll be looking forward to the next one. 🙂 Me want to watch long ass fireworks yo!
😀 happy new year
jo: same to you:)

lol Seems lots of people don’t know I’m here, this is in spite of Suanie telling everyone on her site and me telling everyone on mine a dozen times. lol
Was great seeing you. The whole night was such a blast. If I can arrange holidays next year, I might come back for it. 🙂 [No promises though. I’ll have been in my new job for less than a year, so might not get holidays at all!] 😀
Now you just have to introduce me to all the single girls and have me auctioned off before I leave! 😀
jo: haha i don’t read both sites every single day, so it must have slipped me. 🙂 lol i’ll see what i can do!

I might add, at the ticket booth, I was down as (Dabido) Steven. Which is sort of close to my real name … which is David Stevenson. 😀
I’m used to getting called Steven Davidson by people ocassionally. 😀
jo: cool moniker ya! sort of like an undercover name!
