I was recommended to Dominic and his team at www.pixart.com.my by Minishorts to help them do a review on their new Pixart product – Pixart Pocket Book which was launched on the 1st of September.
I myself wouldn’t usually order things online but I have to say it’s quite innovative, what they are doing. I LOVE IT!!! You will see why.
Basically, it’s a company which caters to people who want to make picture books of themselves and their happier moments. It’s like, you can make a story book about you. Think Peter and Jane. Mine SEEMS like a Peter and Jane book anyway. Haha. With the cute big fonts and the big big pictures!
The photobook is about the size of two palms with a personalized hardcover. There are 12 printed pages(double sided printing too! Very worth it!) for your selection of photos. It is only RM50 and I think that it is worth it! Any additional pages would be charged RM1.50 each. It’s beautiful and well presented and it makes great gifts. Saves the hassles of shopping for something just as meaningful.
Oooh!! From the 1st to the 30th of September, there will be a 20% discount for all users. Do hurry if you’re planning on buying. Anybody loves a pretty thing with their face on it, no?
To start off, you would be required to download a program called Photostylist. It’s a simple program which enables you to choose layouts for your Pixart pocket book and insert photos and the texts to go with it.
It might be a little confusing in the beginning, but very soon you’ll be clicking and tweaking your Pixart book to perfection. The first step would be to get the photos that you want and it will be displayed on a bar situated at the bottom of the screen.
On to creating pages, you will be given a variety of layouts to choose from. You can also download extra layouts from the pixart website itself.
You even get to personalize the cover of the photobook. How fun is that??
After you’re done, you get to preview your work. If you don’t like it, you just go back and adjust. Very flexible.
When you’re satisfied, you would have to fill up your particulars and then upload it to Pixart’s server.
Plus shipping is RM56.00 to anywhere in Malaysia. Shipping to Singapore would be RM25 extra. Apparently shipping to other countries is also supported.
Since I had to go back to Kedah before the Pixart book arrived at my house in Subang, I asked if they could send it to Kedah for me. I was amazed that they actually agreed to send it all the way here!
I purposely bought a bigger postbox to anticipate the arrival of the pixart photo book. I even left a big note scrawled on an A4 paper on the postbox giving instructions to the postman to dump it inside for me, if there was a package for me. I simply cannot afford the time to go down to the post office and collect it. I’ve been having classes from 8.30am to 5pm for the past two days!! (more on that later!)
Imagine my happiness when I came back and found a brown paper package sitting inside my red postbox!
It’s here!!
The cover is nice and solid with a matte finish. The quality of the photos is clear and it was not reduced at all.
The personalised cover spreads from the back to the front cover. Nice touch, don’t you think?
For 12 printed pages, it resembles a children’s storybook!
The quality of the photo seems alright, doesn’t it?? I’m honestly very impressed by the fact that a photo which is only 56k looks pretty presentable!
The texture of the pages feels like a very thick magazine paper. I love the quality!
Dominic adviced me to use photos that can fill up the entire page. I was a little apprehensive at first because I didn’t want to waste space and wouldn’t I look horrendous, all enlarged?
Now that I have seen the finished product, I have to agree that it does LOOK really classy that way.
These four photos are only 56k in size and they still look pretty good. No ugly huge pixels. YAY!
You can add effects like shadow borders or even change the colour of the photos to sepia.
A few more low resolution photos that turned out so nicely.
Two more pages of full sized photos.
Doesn’t it look like a story book to you? I know it looks like I’m making a gift for Chee Kiang right? Hahahhaa. No! It’s all mine! Mine! (Maybe I’ll buy one for him la;))
Basically it’s up to you how you want your Pixart photo book to look.
Flipping through the story of us. Hehe.
A close up.
That pre-valentine’s day dinner at Starhill. Don’t you agree that the lighting where the photos were taken looks pretty good on glossy pages?
Can’t get enough of them full sized photos. I get to be my own centerfold pullout. Hehehe. NOT that I want to pull anything out from this precious photo book! *hugs photobook tightly*
I’m sure he’ll love this book just as much…
…as I do. Heh. No, it still stays with me.
But since it’s only RM50, I’ll definitely be back for more.
…and we lived happily ever after!
Yes, as you can see, I’m satisfied. NO LAH I AM NOT TRYING TO SUCK UP. You can ask Lie Yuen, I was carrying it around the house the entire day, caressing it and flipping through. I’ve never had photos of myself printed into a book of sorts, so it’s still a novelty to me.
I’ll definitely be back for more. Mother’s day, Father’s Day, Brother’s Day, Camwhore Day..etc would be good reasons to buy more!
By the way, if you like, they have a larger version called the Coffee Table Photobook. That looks pretty artistic if you put great snapshots in it.
Many thanks to Pixart for the free photobook! I had fun doing the review. If you have any further enquiries, please feel free to email Pixart at customerservice@pixart.com.my or call 03-77105092.
*goes off to caress matte hardcover pixart book..and the contents too. ahem*
